Head Port Services

This position is vital to the Group in providing support for the Group’s port operational activities to ensure cost-effective and timely clearance of imports/shipments. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the role holder will be responsible for maintaining efficient operations in the packaging and importation of the Group’s goods and ensuring adherence to all ports and customs regulations.

Key Responsibilities

· Contracts and maintains good relationships with shipping/cargo service providers and negotiates cost effectives rates for port operations.
· Monitors all documentation of port transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness in meeting internal reporting purposes, demands of ports authorities and other regulatory bodies.
· Facilitates prompt and adequate provision of insurance cover for all company’s assets at the ports and warehouses.
· Coordinates custom clearing, loading and evacuation of cargo from the ports
· Manages relations with government agencies: Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Authority (NMA ), Customs, National Agency for Food Drug and Control (NAFDAC) and other regulatory agencies
· Manages Dock labour relationships
· Liaises with Warehouse Manager to develop and implement efficient storage and logistics strategies
· Monitors the activities and performance of all personnel in the port, ensuring compliance with ports and safety regulations
· Prepares the annual budget and annual goals/ strategies for port operations

Skills and Competencies

· Technical expertise in ports operations, shipping, logistics distribution, warehousing, bulk cargo operations, warehouse management, ports relationship management, clearing and project management
· Strong general management skills (leadership, mentoring, performance management, interpersonal, people management, planning& control, communication)
· Excellent customer service, negotiation and presentation skills
· Proficient in use of Microsoft office tools and other relevant applications
· Industry and business knowledge (agro-allied/manufacturing/trading/shipping)
· Knowledge and application of regulations on ports operations, custom procnnedures, maritime laws, importation and international trade
· Business focused and ability to focus resources towards achieving set targets

Education and Experience

· A first degree in Logistics Management, Social Sciences, Management or Business Administration.
· A master’s degree or an MBA will be of advantage
· Membership of relevant Professional bodies in Shipping or Maritime operations such as Nigerian Institute of Shipping is required.
· A minimum of 15 years work experience in a product importing, exporting or distributing organisation with at least 8 years at management level.
