Head Sugar

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the position will be responsible for providing leadership and directing all company operations covering production, processing, packaging, quality, maintenance, warehousing, purchasing, safety and all commercial and support activities of the sugar refining company.

Key Responsibilities

· Plans and establishes annual strategies and budgets for the sugar refinery
· Directs the manufacturing, conversion and service operations of the refinery
· Drives the implementation of highly efficient manufacturing practices and cost effective management of all utilities and resources in the sugar refinery.
· Ensures an environment that promotes team work and participation, with high levels of mutual trust
· Leads compliance with all laws and regulations affecting operations
· Oversees the operation and maintenance of assets (plant and equipment, facilities, materials and spares) to optimise their contribution to the implementation of processes throughout the life of the assets
· Oversees the purchasing, installation and proper inventory of spare parts and supplies.
· Keeps accurate and complete records of all financial, procurement and supply transactions
· Prepares and presents regular reports as well as annual plans and budgets to the Management.
· Maintains excellent relationships with suppliers to ensure service Level agreements are sustained
· Keeps abreast with technological advancement in sugar production and make recommendations to Management on product development and improvement.
· Works with the Sales Department to develop customer-specific marketing programs including advertising, communications, promotions, incentive programs and sales support initiatives.


Skills and Competencies

· Technical expertise in manufacturing, plant operations, supply chain management, maintenance, purchasing, quality management and project management
· Strong general management skills (leadership, mentoring, performance management, interpersonal, people management, planning& control, communication)
· Excellent customer service, negotiation and presentation skills
· Understanding of project management
· Proficient in use of Microsoft office tools
· Industry and business knowledge (agro-allied/manufacturing/trading/shipping)
· Business focused and ability to focus resources towards achieving set targets

Education and Experience

· A first degree in Production/Chemical/Mechanical/Food Engineering or a related field
· Masters degree in Food Technology or a related discipline is essential.
· Minimum of 15 years work experience with 8 years at a managerial position in a Sugar/food manufacturing industry
· Masters degree in related discipline is preferred
