 To provide fast local rerouting to deal with transient link failures with minimal changes to the current networking infrastructure.

 In case failure is occur in the network then local recomputation of new shortest paths are calculated without the failed link, since other nodes not aware of the failure.

 A packet is guaranteed to be forwarded along a loop free path to its destination.
